Countryside Verges

The trust has begun investigating the unfortunate way our countryside verges are cut several times a year when all the spring and summer plants are in flower and seed.

Verges Prior To Cutting

25th May 2012 – Verges Prior To Cutting

Much has been written in the press recently about how destructive to wildlife excessive verge cutting can be. We are happy to say we were already taking the lead on this in our area and are having dialog and meetings with LCC and our parish council on how we can reduce the widths of the cut and reduce the frequency of cutting to help our declining wildlife. We hope our Parish council and the local community will support our future plans as many of these verges are a last places where some local flora survives and where our local butterflies can breed and bees and insect life can find wild flowers for pollen nectar and food.
